TRAVEL INFORMATION

Oxford is easily accessible by road and rail and is just an hour’s travel from London’s Heathrow Airport.

By car: The M40 Motorway passes close to Oxford. Use junctions 8 (from the South East) or 9 (from the North). Use the A34 when approaching from the South West and to connect from the M4 Motorway. Oxford is a small, congested city with limited parking, so we generally advise visitors to use the Park and Ride. Visitor parking at the department is limited to 3 spaces, by prior arrangement with Reception only.

By coach/bus: The Oxford Tube and X90 provide frequent 24-hour direct services between Oxford and London. Both services start from London Victoria and stop in the same places in Oxford. The High Street stop is most convenient for the department, and is approximately 10 minutes’ walk away. The Airline and National Express provide regular bus services between Heathrow, Gatwick and Birmingham Airports. Stansted Airport is served by National Express. Stagecoach X5 provides a convenient Oxford-Cambridge bus link.

By rail: Oxford is well served by the rail network with direct services from places such as London Paddington, Southampton, Bristol, Bath, Manchester, and Birmingham. The department is just over a mile from the train station in the city centre. The new Oxford Parkway station is served by the Park & Ride 500 bus, with rail links to London Marylebone, Warwick, Stratford, High Wycombe and Birmingham Snow Hill. Online rail enquiries can be made via National Rail Enquiries or Trainline.
