Want to study Earth Sciences? Thinking of coming to Oxford University?
Our 2023 Open Days will be held on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 June and Friday 15 September.
10-10.30am – An introduction to Earth Sciences – Find out more about Earth Sciences, how the course is taught at Oxford, and where a degree in Earth Sciences could take you.
10.30-11.00am – Q&A session for students in the Seminar Rooms and Parents in the Teaching rooms
11-11.30am – Earth’s Ice Sheets in a Changing Climate – Associate Professor Laura Stevens discusses how she investiagtes Greenland and Antarctic ice sheet, ice shelf, and outlet glacier flow dynamics to better understand the physical mechanisms that destabilize ice sheets with increased surface meltwater production in our warming climate.
11.30-12am – Using the past co-evolution of life, environmental chemistry, and Earth’s climate to inform predictions of future change – Professor Ros Rickaby FRS investigates the interactions between life and the composition of Earth’s oceans and atmosphere.
10-12pm and 2-4pm – Displays, demonstrations and tours – Observation, analysis, measurement, deduction: just some of the aptitudes needed to make a great Earth Scientist. Visit our stands, speak with our current students and tour the department to see if you could be a future Earth Scientist!
2.30-3.30pm – An introduction to Earth Sciences – (Repeat from 10am) Find out more about Earth Sciences, how the course is taught at Oxford, and where a degree in Earth Sciences could take you. With a joint Q&A for both parents and students at the end.
