Open Days and Enquiries

The department welcomes visits from prospective applicants on University Open Days. The next dates for these are in 2018: Wednesday 27 June, Thursday 28 June and Friday 14 September, when we are open from from 10am to 4pm.

Attending an Open Day gives you a chance to tour the department, talk to students, lecturers and tutors and attend lectures and demonstrations illustrate aspects of our undergraduate course and the research which unpins it.

Open days are free, and there is no need to book.


A typical Open Day timetable is shown below (please note, this may be subject to change). Visitors are encouraged to take part in subject-based visits in the morning, and college visits from lunchtime.

10:00-11:00   Introduction to Earth Sciences – Find out more about Earth Sciences, how the course is taught at Oxford, and what possibilities that could open up for your future.
11:00-11:30    Ocean Physics Practical – This practical display provides an insight into ocean physics
11:30-12:00    Modelling Earth Systems – This talk gives more detailed insight into how data is captured and processed to understand planetary systems
12:00-14:00   Aspects of Earth Sciences – Observation, analysis, measurement, deduction: visit each of our stands to find out more about the aptitudes needed to make a great Earth Scientist.
15:00-16:00   Introduction to Earth Sciences (Repeated from 10am) – Find out more about Earth Sciences, how the course is taught at Oxford, and what possibilities could open up for your future.

Prospective graduate students are also welcome on these days, though we can’t guarantee access to prospective supervisors. We advise you email ahead if there’s someone specific you’d like to talk to.

Events in other departments around the University, and activities in Colleges, may require booking.  The University provides further information online.
