Tom Barrett is a DPhil candidate in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford, working under the supervision of Dr. James Bryson. His research explores the origins and evolution of volatiles in the early solar system, with a particular focus on hydrogen and water delivery to Earth. Using a range of analytical techniques, Tom investigates enstatite chondrites to better understand the building blocks of Earth and the processes that contributed to the planet's water inventory.
Tom completed his undergraduate degree at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Oxford. His masters research project titled "The Origin of Earth's Water in Enstatite Chondrites" formed the basis for his current DPhil research.
Outside the lab, Tom is a passionate athlete, representing the University over 800m. He recently helped organise Oxford’s "Community Mile" to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister’s legendary four-minute mile.
