Research profile

My research focuses on the study of past environments, past climates and the impacts of major environmental change. The broad aim is to provide information about the workings of the Earth system in the geological past that can be used to:

  • test predictive models of future climatic, oceanographic and environmental scenarios; and
  • inform the debate about the likely environmental and biological consequences of increased atmospheric carbon dioxide.

I use a variety of geological, geochemical and geophysical techniques in my work and have worked with a wide range of sediments from many different depositional environments and geological time periods.
