I am interested in the capacity of reactive flow to cause element redistribution in subsolidus magmatic systems, and specifically whether this can lead to the formation of critical metal deposits. My DPhil research tests a potential metasomatic origin for the magnetitite layers (layers of monomineralic magnetite) in the Bushveld intrusion, South Africa. I am combining petrological experiments, numerical modelling and fieldwork to test this hypothesis. I am supervised by Prof Jon Blundy, Prof Richard Katz and Dr Elena Melekhova, and funded by the St Cross Graduate Scholarship in Environmental Research.
