My research interests usually centre around two topics: earthquake physics and signal processing.  I get particularly keen when we can combine the two: when we can take a physical process that’s hypothesized to occur in the Earth, use the physics to predict something we can observe, and then develop new techniques to make those specific observations.  Some recent topics of interest include

Physics-based earthquake forecasting

Blind source separation

Earthquake source properties

Borehole strain observations and hydrology

Seismic waves from oceans and rivers

Slow earthquakes

Aseismic slip and fault structure
