Earth Sciences and the MPLS awards

The MPLS awards celebrate and recognise the outstanding levels of work and dedication from staff across the Mathematical, Physical, and Life Sciences division. This year two awards were given to Earth Sciences staff.

Elizabeth Crowley was awarded an MPLS Divisional Teaching Awards, recognising her significant contributions to student learning and academic innovation. Elizabeth has led the redevelopment of first-year academic skills training, creating an engaging, integrated programme that supports students in library research, scientific writing, and the effective use of sources throughout the year.  Working closely with colleagues, Elizabeth has also developed innovative teaching materials and embedded these skills across the curriculum.  This has been a substantial undertaking, which she has carried out with great dedication and care.  As students know well, she has been committed to continually improving the student experience, willing to develop expertise on emerging issues such as AI, and has made the departmental library a welcoming and inclusive place over many years.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The IT Cluster Team (Simon Eustice, Peter Ellis, Martin Hurajt, Glen Harrison, Adam Berry, Brian Mullin, Daniel Myers, Arturas Radiun, Cornelius Bobb, Jack Holifield) have been recognised through the successful expansion of its shared IT service across multiple MPLS departments while maintaining a high standard of user support. Through professionalism, collaboration, and adaptability, the team has delivered major service improvements, supported significant change projects, and established a scalable model for shared IT services that has strengthened resilience and collaboration across the Division.
