The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford is advertising a number of DPhil projects for 2025 entry. Our DPhil programmes provide individuals with the opportunity to undertake novel scientific research whilst being supervised by world-class researchers from across the Earth and Planetary Sciences disciplines.
Our faculty have expertise in fields including geophysics, volcanology, palaeobiology, oceanography, geology and more, so there is likely the perfect project for you. We also encourage students to devise projects of their own, in consultation with potential supervisors. Undertaking a DPhil (or PhD, as in other institutions) in the department will allow you to develop your research skills in quality facilities and lab spaces, whilst being part of a supportive community of postgraduate researchers.
We offer admission via four programmes:
- DPhil in Earth Sciences
- Environmental Research (NERC Doctoral Training Partnership)
- Intelligent Earth (UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for the Environment)
- Interdisciplinary Bioscience (BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership)
