Royal Society ‘Parent, Carer, Scientist’ Campaign

The Royal Society has launched a new campaign ‘Parent, Carer, Scientist’, which includes 40 stories from parents and carers working in research.  Palaeontologist and former Newton Fellow Dr Valentin Fischer  is featured along with a number of Oxford researchers and academics. Professor Ben Sheldon from Zoology is showcased in one of the four stories in an article in the Guardian Higher Education Network.

As we examine similar questions in our work for the renewal of the department’s Athena Swan Silver Award, we hope this highlights many of the very good reasons why working in academic science is a great career for those considering, or having taken on caring or parenting responsibilities .
