Metals in the Ocean

Transition metal stable isotope geochemistry is particularly useful for investigating processes in low temperature environments where significant isotope fractionation may reflect diverse mineralogy, oxidation state, adsorption and/or biological processes.

We are currently developing a global picture of the surface tungsten isotope cycle. This is of interest in its own right but also sets the stage for being able to apply tungsten to such interesting problems as the oxygenation of the Earth’s Atmosphere.
