| Pop picking is a fast
'n' furious business these days whether you are on the recording studio
side listening out, or on the disc-counter side listening in. Since
The Beetles broke into earshot in 1997, Oxford has once again swung, bopped,
and twisted to the unique brand of Rhythm and Blues folk music that shook
the world thirty years ago. The Beetles' approach from the very beginning
has been one of shameless barefaced imitation. These boys don't wear
wigs or winkle-pickers, but they do faithfully reproduce the tremendously
exciting live sound that sent their predecessors scuttling to the peak-popularity
point reserved for discdom's privileged few. The Beetles steal their
lyrics, plunder their instrumental backdrops, and rob their vocal arrangements,
giving them a varied repertoire of firm live-performance favourites.
Their music is wild, pungent, hard-hitting, uninhibited . . . and personal. |
