Palaeomagnetism is a discipline that has pervasive applicability to geological and environmental problems. The research in the Palaeomagnetism and Rock Magnetism Group at the University of Oxford addresses a broad spectrum of the Earth Sciences.  We work in particularly close collaboration with researchers in tectonics and structural geology, sedimentology and stratigraphy, volcanology, archaeology, geodynamics, and isotope geochemistry.

The group currently comprises 2 Faculty, 2 Senior Research Fellows, 1 Research Officer, 1 Post-doctoral Fellow, and 2 Post Graduate Students, as well as various short-stay visitors. We also have a variable number of final year students doing their projects with us each year. The Group is led by Conall Mac Niocaill of the Department of Earth Sciences.  Some of our current research projects are briefly outlined here.
