A set of thin section images, all at the same scale (1.5 x 1 cm) showing the range of textures to be found in metabasic eclogites from several different terranes, plus a few other associated high-pressure rock types.
Mineral assemblages and microstructures of prograde and retrograde metamorphism in high-pressure complexes
This album is under construction, and will grow over the coming months. It contains images from a third-year undergraduate course in metamorphic petrology entitled "Metamorphic Geology", which deals with metamorphic rocks in the context of their tectonic setting. The field and outcrop photographs were taken by me over the period 1971 to the present. I drew the diagrams and took the hand specimen photographs and photomicrographs. Many of the illustrated samples are from my own collections; others are from the teaching and research collections of the Department of Earth Sciences and the Museum of Natural History, University of Oxford.
Oxford students can use this as a resource to support an ongoing course, or for revision. Other visitors will find here an illustrated outline of some of the course material.
