Happy Hour
Beers of the World selection

Happy hour takes place every Friday in the department starting at 5:30 after the Geophysical Sciences Friday seminar. It provides an informal setting to allow graduates, senior undergraduates and faculty members to mix and chat with those members of the department who they don't necessarily see in the normal working day.

Happy Hour was previously run by Ali Gemmell and Ben Kilner but their tenure came to an end at the end of last term, after which I took over with Ben Fox. As of the beginning of Hilary 2004, we'll be introducing imported beers from all over the world as we take you on a whistle-stop tour of the planet's more far-flung breweries. Each week we'll be providing one beer from our guest cellar and I'll bring you details of each one in due time.

This week's beer of the World:

Moosehead Lager, Canada, 355ml, 5% abv.

Moosehead After the last two weeks forays into the territory of strong beers Happy Hour is, this week, pleased to present a return to more sedate ways. To celebrate Richard McAvoy's last (official) day in the department we've wheeled out Canada's finest, Moosehead Lager. This is also the final new 'Beer of the World' of the term so be sure not to miss out.

The Moosehead brewery is Canada's oldest independent brewery, established in 1867 and this offering promises to provide a clean crisp beer, probably similar to Budeweiser from South of the border. Served in a larger than life 355ml bottle this promises to be, probably, the only chance many of our regulars will have to sample this fine fair from across the pond.

Served from 5:30 on Friday of 9th week (Friday 19th March).
