Resources for Earth Science Teaching

Much has changed since I first compiled these resources over seven years ago, and the old pages are beyond useful revision or repair. Internet-based material is now abundant and search engines make it relatively easy to find. However, I'm still aiming to maintain a cut-down list of sites and materials I've found useful.

You might also like to visit Oxford's Learning Technologies Group, who have pages of general and subject-based resources.

General Educational Technology (UK)

• CITAL: Computers In Teaching And Learning. From Staffordshire University, originally assembled by Prof. Mark Stiles. Many links on the use of IT in teaching and learning. Strong on pedagogy. Is also the source of the COSE VLE system.
• Educational Technology at the Centre for Academic Practice, University of Warwick.

Tools and software

Web-based teaching solutions now tend to be large-scale operations delivered at the institution or department level. However, there are still some tools for individuals to play with:

• Hot Potatoes: tool for generating multiple-choice questions for learning support.

• IM West's Geology of the Wessex Coast: big site with illustrated geological field guides and related material.
