Indian Ocean - RRS Charles Darwin Cruise CD154

During December 2003 - January 2004 I participated on research crusie CD 154 aboard the RRS Charles Darwin (PIs Ian Hall & Rainer Zahn). We collected water and sediment samples with the aim of constraining proxy measurements so that the history of the Aghulas Current could be reconstructed.

The RRS Charles Darwin docked at Cape Town after the cruise. Sometimes the weather was a little too bad to do any science!

The onshore sampling party was held at the Marum in Bremen, contrasing to the drilling in Tahiti Over 600 m of core was collected at over 90% recovery
The post-cruise meeting was held on Tahiti. The scarifices we make for science eh! A beach near Tiarei close to where some of the drilling was done. The surf was pretty bad that day (well that was my excuse anyway).
