Palaeomagnetism Laboratory Facilities
- 2-G Enterprises DC Squid Cryogenic Magnetometer, with
an in-line AF demagnetiser
-
AGICO JR5a Spinner magnetometer.
-
Molspin Spinner magnetometer.
-
Tumbling Alternating Field (AF) demagnetizer for AF
demagnetisation to 100mT.
-
3 Thermal demagnetizers (2 MMTD, one in-house design).
One of the MMTD furnaces has a DC field coil for Thellier-Thellier experiments
and palaeointensity determinations, and one with particularly accurate
temperature control and extremely low magnetic field.
-
KLY2 Kappabridge for measurements of magnetic susceptibility
and the anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility, with an attached CS3 furnace
for both high (700°C) and low (-192°C) temperature measurements.
-
Minispin Anisotropy delineator.
-
Bartington MS2 Magnetic Susceptibility system with MS2B dual-frequency sensor and MS2F and field probe.
-
Pulse magnetizer (max. field apx. 800mT).
-
Variable Frequency Translation Balance for measurement
of hysteresis parameters, thermomagnetic curves at temperatures up to 700°C
in air or argon, facilities for AF demagnetization to 150mT and separate
biasing coils for imparting of ARM.
The 2G Cryogenic magnetometer and the 2 MMTD furnaces
are housed in a "field-free" double-layer transformer steel room, with
an internal field of less than 200nT. |
